• A Fiber Show...what is involved in getting ready???

So if you've been around, you know that I'm getting ready for Fiber-U next weekend. The first in-person show in 2 years and still one of the few this year. And in the heart of super high Covid numbers. I am glad I am vaccinated.
What you many not know is what it's like to get ready for a show. I'm going to give you a little behind the scenes today.
  • Is it hot enough for you? Try some Christmas yarn...

Hot...I'm sitting here sweating with the fam blowing on me, but I know it has been even hotter for so many of you this week. I live in the South, so we expect it, prepare for it, have air conditioning for it. I'd hate to think of dealing with this heat and humidity without any cooling. Hang in there...fall is coming!!! I guess you could say Christmas is coming here at The Wooly Cabin. I have found that knitting up Christmas yarn, listening to Christmas music and especially reading The Long Winter will make you feel much, much cooler. Try it!!!
  • July is coming....

I have a feeling July is going to be a blur. I'm starting to not know what day it is and am waking up super early and am not able to go back to sleep. A sure indicator for me of a full schedule....
I have been dyeing a lot! Like more than normal, and this will continue through July I think. Honestly, the yarn and fiber is piling up, but it's all for a certain person, shop or show. I have found that there's no such thing as too much.
  • July is coming....

It is Saturday again...how does that happen? The weeks just fly by, don't they?
If you have been around, you know my July schedule. It's a big one. I don't like having a big, stressful rush at the last minute, so I have been getting ready bit by bit, day by day so that it will go smoothly.
What I wasn't ready for, was the problem with my sock yarn....
  • Spinning and knitting this week... I've gotten some things accomplished, have you?

How about something light and enjoyable today. Things have been a little heavy lately, so I think we are due.
I have been doing some knitting and spinning lately. All is right with the world when I can sit down and spin awhile....
  • Sheep to Shawl

When I started The Wooly Cabin, I dreamed about wool, spinning, my own sheep...it hasn't gone in that direction at all. No sheep, no spinning, very little wool, but a lot of yarn!!! It sort of has a life of it's own. Sometimes I don't even feel in control of it.
The thing is fiber and wool just does something for me. It is hard to explain.....
  • The support!!! You all are so wonderful!!! Changes I've made.

First of all I want to thank each and every one of you for being so supportive this past week of my last post and decisions I've made. You are all so awesome!!!
Here are a few changes I have made....
  • What a week!!! Weeks like this make you wish for the dull and mundane weeks.

What a week this was!!! Some weeks you know are just downright dull. Nothing new or exciting happens and almost feel sluggish with the average-ness of it all. Then you have a week like I had this week and you long for the boring and dull....
This week there were all manner of personal family crises....
Then there was the out-of-the-blue-job offer... There I was, scrubbing dirty dyeing pans, wearing my respirator, sweating... and the phone rings...
  • Do you like what you are becoming???...

This week I read an article from Joshua Becker entitled, 'Do you Like the Person you are becoming?'. It really made me stop and think. From the outside, we can all look so put together, so successful, so happy...but are we? What does this mean for me...and you...?
For me this means I need to prioritize. You know the example of the jar with the rocks. You have to fit in the big ones first. If you put all the little ones in first, you can't get the important ones in. Here is an example....
  • Bird yarns, flower yarns, woods yarns...I think I have a theme going....

I have always loved all things nature. I love watching the birds, watching the changing weather and storms, watching the leaves change in the fall, watching the deer (eat my flowers), watching all things nature. Dyeing nature-y colors feels extra creative and satisfying. ....'Nature Notebook', 'Cattails', '100 Acre Wood', 'Pinecones', 'Rusty Oak', 'Daisies and Periwinkle', 'Bluebird'...
